The "McIntyre 55" is 16.5 metres long and an exciting yacht to sail. She was developed initially for the Together Alone Around the World Yacht Race to provide exciting sailing in a safe seaworthy yacht capable of safe and comfortable passage making anywhere in the world.

Galley
The galley is situated on the port side and has fitted 2-burner oven and grill Origo methylated spirits stove, salt and freshwater foot pumps and ample storage for extended passage making.

The Head
Situated on the port side forward the head compartment includes hand basin and a LAVAC manual toilet fitted. Watertight storage lockers are also incorporated into the head fitout.

Internal Configuration
An integral collision bulkhead is fitted at the bow. The foc’sle which is secured by watertight bulkheads and hatch provides excellent wet storage for sails separate from the accommodation areas. The forward cabin is fitted with two sea berths and six storage cubes as well as access to the head compartment. The forward cabin is secured by a large water-tight door leading into the saloon. The main accommodation compartment has four bunks and seating for a dinette area. The two 250 litre pressure tested aluminium fresh water tanks are located under the lower bunks. The navigatorium is located on the starboard side opposite the galley. Aft of the navigatorium is a dedicated wet weather gear locker in easy reach of the companionway area to be convenient when gearing up or coming off watch. On the starboard side there are two quarter berths and the port side features a skipper's quarter cabin with storage and two bunks. The engine compartment is accessed from the skipper's cabin and the starboard aft quarter cabin by the removable of large access panels. The aft steering compartment is isolated from the accommodation area by way of a watertight bulkhead.

Mast and Rigging
The Aluminium sleeved  double-spreader rig was built and fitted by Alyachtspars. The boom is a  reinforced aluminium construction and is fitted with a strut boom vang. Standing rigging includes running backstays and main backstay.  The outer number one forestay is fitted with a Goiot headsail reefing system. The inner number two forestay and the staysail stay takes hanked sails. The mast also supports a Raytheon radar scanner, masthead VHF aerial and navigation lights.

Deck Equipment
All oversize Goiot deck gear, Spinlock Rope clutches and Anderson winches. The deck is built in a female mould with in built non-skid pattern on all traffic areas. The pushpit railing supports satellite communication antennas and radio aerials.

Winches
Two Anderson ST-58 Stainless Steel Primary winches, two Anderson ST52 Runner and Mainsheet winches, and three Anderson ST52 halyard winches are fitted around the cockpit. All these winches are of stainless steel construction, self tailing and feature the Power Rib drums to reduce chafe and abrasion of lines.

Navigation Equipment
Omni hand-bearing compass. Raytheon pathfinder radar/Navcentre chart plotter and GPS. See electronics fit-out list.

Sails
Mainsail, #1 Furling Genoa, # 2 Genoa, #3 Yankee, #4 Jib and Staysail fitted. Also carried are a  storm jib and a storm trysail constructed in high visibility orange Dacron cloth.

Steering Gear
The McIntyre 55 features a semi balanced rudder mounted on a partial skeg and supported by three bearings. The Goiot quadrant drives a Goiot 720 steering pedestal and 1300mm wheel by wire steering cables.

Machinery
A Yanmar 38hp diesel saildrive engine is fitted. It drives an 80amp Balmar alternator and smart charger for primary battery charging and a Gori two bladed folding propeller for propulsion. Diesel is stored in a 220 litre marine grade aluminium pressure tested fuel tank. A sight gauge is fitted for reliable monitoring and fuel is supplied to the engine through a CAV glass bowl primary filter. The exhaust system includes a Vetus waterlock, muffler and gooseneck to reduce noise emissions and prevent the backflow of water into the engine.

Electrics
A 12V system is used throughout. The house batteries consist of two 200 amp hour batteries and a 50 amphour starting battery.

Hull
The hull is constructed of E-Glass and Divinycell foam core  with a grillage of transverse frames and longitudinal stiffeners.

Deck and Superstructure
One sail handling Goiot hatch is installed above the sail storage compartment and one standard Goiot hatch fitted over the forward accommodation compartment.  Eight Goiot opening ports/hatches are fitted in the cabin sides. A Goiot hatch fitted behind the cockpit to port provides access to the steering compartment. The lazzarette is accessed by two fibreglass hatches on the after deck.
