"ICE"  The McIntyre's new yacht.  A 21 Metre Expedition Yacht

Ten years after their first Antarctic Expedition in the 15.2 metre BOC racer ' BUTTERCUP' , Don & Margie McIntyre have decided on a schooner for their next expedition vessel. Following three successful Antarctic seasons  their 36 metre helicopter equipped ice ship 'SIR HUBERT WILKINS' was sold in June 2003.  Prior to this, the McIntyre's had sailed their 18.6 metre sloop 'SPIRIT OF SYDNEY' on eight Antarctic expeditions so it is natural for them to return to sail. 'ICE' is now taking shape in Yamba on the NSW north coast at Aluminium and Steel boats, ( the same builder of 'Buttercup', the McIntyre's
1990 /91 BOC Challenge entry) and should be commissioned in late 2006.

'ICE'

Will be an impressive, environmentally friendly remote area logistics support vessel set up for a crew of two and 10 expeditioners. The very latest satellite communications, filming, diving and safety gear will be complimented by home comforts including full central heating and fridge /freezers for the tropics. With an easily handled schooner rig and only 1.5 metres draft and considerable storage capacity,  'ICE' will be an unique vessel able to travel any ocean at anytime.

In late 2006, the McIntyre's plan to set off on a two year around the world voyage via the Antarctic and the Arctic. Chasing polar bears, penguins, tropical diving, climbing and exploring are all on the agenda. If you would like to join them or utilise 'ICE' to support your expedition anywhere in the world over the next few years, you should register your interest now or check this site in January 2006 for more details.
